The closer you get to the things you want, the scarier it feels.

Recently, I’ve been looking at apartments. I’ve dreamt of a new home/studio since living in Los Angeles, specifically a place to live and create. In Mexico, there are many iconic buildings with character, personality, natural light, and original wood floors. Last week, I visited one that I had pointed out to a friend months prior, saying, “Can you imagine?” It felt like fate when my friend Eva, who is also my realtor, messaged me, “We have an appointment in one of your favorite buildings!”

As soon as I walked in, I felt a rush of excitement. The place was everything I had envisioned: warm light, historic charm, and beautiful details. Each step I took made the image of my future life there more vivid. I imagined carrying my bags from the farmer’s market up those steps, hosting dinner parties, and enjoying cozy nights with music and candles. It felt like a place I could consider home.

But almost immediately, fear crept in. I thought, “What if this doesn’t work out? What if I get my hopes up and it all falls apart?” My excitement quickly turned to doubt. I found myself transitioning from joy to a quiet constriction, thinking, “I shouldn’t get excited. I should stop.”

Eva saw my hesitation and invited me to get really joyous about the apartment. “Allow yourself to overflow with excitement,” she said. “It’s the energy that makes things happen.” Her words were a revelation. It was like she gave me permission to dream without reservation. Eva pointed out that “FEELING” is part of our magic. It’s the permission that allows us to create necessary momentum beyond our ordinary stories and experiences.

I realized that protecting myself from potential disappointment had become a familiar pattern. Even as a generally positive person, I had hidden fears of abandonment, rejection and vulnerability.

Sometimes it feels easier to protect ourselves from disappointment than to fully embrace our desires. If we act like we don’t care, then we won’t have to feel pain right?

On the walk home from viewing the apartment, I had a moment of awareness. I began to understand something crucial: acknowledging fear is the first step in breaking free from its grasp in our lives.

We need dreamers, artists, healers, and all of us to find the courage to lean into possibility to create anew for the entire group. This experience taught me several important lessons, and I want to share them with you:

TOOLS FOR ALIGNING YOUR DREAMS

Living the life we desire requires integrating these principles into our daily routines. Cultivate gratitude for what you already have, stay present and mindful in your activities. Speak to yourself with kindness and encouragement.

Remember, the universe responds to the energy we put out. By aligning our thoughts, feelings, and actions with our desires, we become magnets for what we want. Possibility, faith, and excitement are not just emotions; they are the keys to unlocking the life we dream of.

Embrace these principles, and watch as the universe responds in kind. You are worthy of everything you desire. Believe it, feel it, live it.

All Things,

MG
