Cole Moser, whose creative prowess, and genuine spirit have made her an invaluable cherished new friend, is our first guest writer.
We had the great pleasure of inviting Cole to join one of our Equal Parts productions in Los Angeles for interior designers and developers Ome Dezin. Our crew combined to capture film, video, and edit imagery at a Quincy Jones home tucked in the Brentwood Hills.
Cole transcends being a talented photographer; she embodies insight, introspection, and a timeless sense of chic that resonates deeply through her work and being. Her personal and professional journey as a lifestyle documenter and photographer has taken her across Europe, capturing moments that speak to the essence of human experience.
In this article, we delve into Cole’s recent adventures and uncover the secrets behind her captivating approach to photography and life overseas.
MG: We see you’ve been traveling a lot; can you break down your recent travels?
CM: I do! I love to spend my summers in Europe, and this summer is no exception. I recently got back from a whirlwind trip to London, Amsterdam, and Italy.
MG: You do a beautiful job of creating while traveling; what is your process like?
CM: Thank you so much! I think because I’m a bit of an introvert, my favorite thing to do is travel solo with my cameras. When I’m shooting just for my personal work, I love to wake up early, grab a coffee, and set out on foot to catch the morning light.
Wandering a new place with my camera in hand and music in my ears, to observe the local culture and capture things that catch my eye, just makes me so happy. I’m fascinated by humans and community, architecture, good design, and capturing the warm moments of life.
When I’m on a job for a hospitality client, I love to spend at least 1-2 days without my camera, just observing. I think it’s important to experience all of the little details of an environment that its creators have worked so hard to craft, so I can properly tell the story of what makes each place special and unique.
I love to get to know the staff, watch how other guests are experiencing the space, and wander the property at different times of day to develop my shot list. My goal is always to capture the individuality and magic of each space.
MG: How did you get into travel content and partnerships?
I just started. Sounds simple, but it’s true.
I’ve been a photographer working in LA for several years, and when I decided I wanted to break into this space, I just started shooting in my free time with the types of clients I’d like to book. Eventually, I started getting paid for it.
MG: When you are taking film photos, what elements do you think help create the strongest image (what type of things do you consider)?
Light, composition, and the story.
MG: What advice would you give to someone wanting to start out in that space?
Just start. Don’t overthink it. Start building a body of work that you’re proud of and post it.
The right opportunities and clients will come to you when you consistently start sharing your point of view. Make a list of who you want to work for and email your work to their marketing team and pitch to them what you can do for them!
MG: What are your favorite destinations you’ve been to, from where you stayed, ate, shopped?
This question is nearly impossible to answer! But I’ll just go with the first three that come to mind…
Sicily:
To stay: Tonnara Di Scopello on the west side, Villa Sant'Andrea on the East side
Eat: Gagini in Palermo for a Michelin star meal that you’ll talk about forever + Locanda Cerami in Catania for dining al fresco in the city center
Shop: I love antiquing wherever I’m at. Check out the Mercato Delle Pulci Antique Market + The Piazza Peranni Antique Market
Hydra:
To stay: Bratsera or the Orloff Boutique Hotel
Eat: Ostria for cheap, authentic Greek food, Techne for the vibes + the amazing dishes, Douskos for the freshest Greek food of your life, + 1821 bar for drinks at night
Shop: Replay is a super cute boutique with amazing woven handbags
Marseille:
To stay: Tuba Club or Hotel Les Roches Blanches
Eat: Cecile for a quick bite (it’s owned by the chicest, Erin Wasson), L’eau A La Bouche for pizza + vibes, and La Mercerie for fresh fish, organic wine, + pasta…nothing better.
Shop: Jogging - the coolest boutique with incredible designers, Maison Empereur - the oldest shop in Marseille that has literally anything you could want for your home from hardware to decor.
